Lawrence Lek (Chinese: 陆明龙;) is a multimedia artist, filmmaker, and musician based in London. His works include the films "AIDOL", "Geomancer", 

AIDOL 爱道 is a computer-generated story of a fading superstar who enlists an aspiring AI songwriter to mount a comeback performance. The film is produced using 3D rendering, gaming software and motion capture technology. On Saturday, 10 October, Lawrence will present the film live. Followed by an artist discussion between Lawrence Lek and Kode9.

As in his previous film, Geomancer (2017), the plot is of secondary importance as it merely provides a trail of ideas to follow. The camera is on Diva in this futurist universe, partly recognisable (jungle, temples, stadium) and partly abstract and Lawrence Lek is a London-based artist, filmmaker, and musician who unifies diverse practices—CGI, audio-visual performance, gaming, and fiction—into a continuously expanding cinematic universe. Drawing from a background in architecture and electronic music, he produces simulations of real places within future scenarios and alternate geopolitical histories. He grew up in different Asian cities: Singapore, Osaka, Bangkok, Hong Kong, following his parents’ jobs with Singapore Airlines. He studied architecture in the UK and in the US, and today lives in London, where he is working as an artist and pursuing a PhD in Machine Learning at the Royal Academy of Art. The languages, interests and habits that Lek Lawrence Lek’s AIDOL 爱道 is feature-length film accompanied by a score written and orchestrated by the artist.
